What an amazing, amazing story. The non-fictional account of 'Old Man and the Sea'. However, obviously a younger protagonist in Paulo...

I'm sure there's plenty of fellow kayakers who think this is doable. But when you really think about it, this is a once in a generation catch. The moons would have to fully align. Trying to think through the details of - what if i was in this situation? - I think I would've cut the line. I don't think I could fight a fish of that size for more than two hours. The physics of it all just don't make sense in my mind. To be honest, I wouldn't want a fish having the ability to bump me off the kayak either.

This really is a pretty inspiring story. It also puts kayak fishing on a pedestal for true sports-fishing...putting your mind and body to the test like that. I can't say how much I appreciate Paulo telling his story... and 5th for posting it.

For a humble off and on kayak fisherman like myself, this reinforces the following lessons:

1) If you set yourself a target fish - only dogged determination and time on the water in the best conditions possible will deliver.

2) Boundaries for kayak fishing are what you make them.
