Squidtastic, better than plastic

squidplastic #1
Looks innocent enough...
Lately I've been experimenting with what I've coined 'Squidplastic' fishing - the art of using pieces of squid as imitation soft plastic lures. I haven't been at it long and haven't hooked any prize fish yet, but the signs are really very promising. I introduced the concept in this little write up a few weeks back and have been toying with the idea ever since. Despite the fact that 'm yet to have any photos with awe-inspiring fish hooked by this method, I have thus far caught Pinky Snapper and Flathead with them and as evidenced by this video clip (taken at Rickett's Point last weekend), they aren't the only species likely to show interest. Had I been using smaller hooks here, I'm sure I'd had a few hook ups.

The hungry little Leatherjackets here aren't alone either. I can't quite tell what those other fish are (not in frame for long). Tailor or Bream is my guess. Anyone care to ID them? Click the 'read more' link to watch the clip.

I've suspected those little leatheries have been beating up my plastics for ages. I've never hooked one to confirm it but your vid proves it for me
