The new 'must have' item If you have a wheelcart for your Hobie kayak, chances are you're going to appreciate this little addition Hobie have released. Its a clamp-on support base that transfers all of the weight from the kayak onto the cart via the reinforced scupper tubes, instead of the hull itself. This means that with these installed correctly, you can leave them under your kayak for longer periods of time without fear of deforming the base of the hull (where the cart frame crossbar meets the hull). I put these to the test over the weekend and can confirm that they work really very well. Even with the outrigger and tramp installed and with all my gear loaded aboard, I was able to get away with leaving it sit for an extended period of time, with no deforming whatsoever. These would be mandatory for the new Pro Angler kayak.
To add to the good news on that front, they also fit the Trax cart and they're nice and cheap to - expect to get change from $5. This is what they look like installed on a wheelcart. And if that wheelcart looks a little different to you its because yes, there's a new wheelcart in town. It uses the same wheels as the previous version, has a wider frame (and thus wheel base) and now incorporates a little pop-out cap that can be inserted into the frame to lock the wheels onto the kayak (so they can't fall out unless you really want them to).Nifty!
