Dodge this!
Recently I spoke about how the on-going project 'RAMming Speed' (my kayak) was pretty much complete, save for a few small inexpensive modifications. One of those modifications was the addition of a fish donger, plus some form of mounting system. I could have taken the time to make some sort of fish donger, but instead just decided to pick up one of Ocean Kayak's 'Priest' dongers, which is both small, heavy duty and certain to be highly effective. It is formed with an aluminium tube with a tape-wrap handle with nylon lanyard attached. The weight appears to come from lead shot mixed in with some kind of resin, squeezed into the top-end of the tube. The Priest is a worthy attitude adjuster to be sure.
I thought about leashing it to the kayak but in the end decided against adding another leashed item. Instead I've decided to screw in a couple of small semi-circular clips that hold the aluminium shaft securely. It clips into place firmly and the only way it can come out is if I grab it and pull it out, which is pretty much perfect. For now I have these clipsscrewed in at the base of the right mesh pocket (utilising pre-existing screw holes), where it's nice and handy, but not in the way of anything. I'll snap off and up-load a photo of this after this weekends adventures.
