Calm but frustratingHitched the Adventure (hull only) to the ride-on mower and made for the creek at about 2.30pm this afternoon in about 26 degrees and light winds. Loading up with only the paddle and plugging the drive hole I paddled the 50 metres to the deep section of the creek and found a nice spot in the shade of a tree. Today I had a short graphite flickstick matched with a 2500 sedona and was armed with various soft plastic and hard bodied lures. Started using a vibe blade, changing over to a small hard bodied and then progressed through to the soft plastics and finally the gulps. With only a couple of bites and the gulps as reward I decided that a later session would be in order so headed off for the 3 minute trip back home for a quick feed and see the neighbours. After some home made pizzas and a few beers it was back down to see if the fish had decided to come out to play. On reaching the creek all was quiet and very dark. Quickly launching I started on the soft plastics without a touch, changing to the gulps as a last ditch effort I was left biteless. As I was to head back I noticed one of my little gillies poppers and strapped that on for a ride, only to find a tree on the first cast. A bit of mucking about and I have free and started casting away into the darkness. Now using poppers at night is a little strange, as all you hear is the sound of the lure and in the quiet of night it really did seem very loud. Guessing where I was in relation to the bank made it interesting and I was able to avoid getting stuck again, more through luck then anything else. Even with the popper working away there was no action at all and was about to pack it in when I hooked and lost a little tarpon followed quickly by two more that also threw the lure by leaping around. It was the next cast that the popper got hit loudly by a barramundi, coming close to scaring the poo out of me, regaining composure just in time for the fish to come out of the water and throw the lure back towards me hitting the kayak. This motivated me to continue for a bit longer only to receive another near heart attack when a few minutes later another barramundi busted up right next to me as I lifted the lure out of the water. 20 minutes later with nothing else to report I made for home so I could start packing for tomorrows efforts.
