Nice weather, good company & a shizen end

Image

I arrived at the cape about 5 minutes past 7:30am only to be berated for being late by 'Reel em in' aka Rod, after a quick chat about tactics as I set up Rod was off whilst I parked the car. It was a great morning with calm seas, light winds and an incoming tide. Both Rod and myself had similar plans of attack, to troll lures and cast into the rocks and drop offs.

Heading out was easy and we soon made our way out the front past a few tinnies and back around the southern side to cast away. I started with a vibe blade casting into every nook and cranny that might of held fish, and after 2 hours of casting and trying every type of retrieve known to man and then some, I came up empty handed. Rod was having the same luck as me and we both made lure changes to cast around the mangroves, again without success.

We started to make our way back, casting and trolling like mad men to try and coax something but to no avail. I did get plenty of time to take pictures and saw the biggest sea turtle I have ever seen, which I first thought was a dugong resting on the surface only to have the massive head of the turtle poke up when I got too close. There were several schools of bait fish that were not being hassled by anything and casting through, under, over these was a futile exercise.

I saw a mother whale with her calf come up for air and after a short chase didn't see them again unfortunatey. Rod and I both rallied at the end to try and get something and Rod was rewarded by a small fingermark. Making our way back to beach and a quick pack up ended the days fishing and made tentative plans to meet at Teemburra tomorrow.

Driving home I had the clutch go all soft and gritty and started to make terrible noises every time it was depressed, so I nursed to car home and now I am stuck for the rest of the weekend. So it looks like my plans for the rest of the week are now on hold as I have to prioritise getting the car fixed.
