Many people don't like Monday's... I never used to either. But now that I have Mondays free and have joined forces with Jay to make Mondays our fixed kayakfishing day, that has changed. Now I  am counting down the days until next Monday comes around! This week we decided to give Barney's Point on the Tweed River a go. I picked Jay up at 6.30 am, and by 7.30 am we where ready to go. We started to fish the pylons under the highway bridge, but after a short while the raging current and the howling wind made us seek some more sheltered water.

Just a few hundred meters up the river on the northern side we found what we were looking for - a mix between weed and sand in about a meter of water. On my first troll along the weedy edges I hooked up. First I thought I'd picked up a stick or some weed, but then suddenly the spool started rolling with line peeling off. Then a short break, and then ZZZzzz again. For sure, that's not a snag. A minute later I lifted a nice 56cm flathead into my Adventure. I continued trolling my Squidgy around, and within 5 minutes I picked up another one, a bit smaller but still a keeper. I decided it would be his lucky day, and let him go, the first one would do nicely for dinner. We worked our way around the island there, and it was Jay's turn. Nice one to.

By now it was  9.30 and I made my way back to the bridge to fish the turn of the tide around the pylons, while Jay stayed back out of the wind. In the shade under the bridge I found a big ball of bait fish, and on my sounder I could see big fish lurking underneath, but no matter which lures or tactics I tried, I couldn't get a  bite. Then a dolphin submerged about 3 meters to my right and scared the holy daylight out of me. That's why I couldn't get a strike, there are dolphins around.

I followed them for a while, watching them hunting and swimming right under my kayak. Jay caught up with me and we continued to  troll & cast  another 700meters downriver. But fishing got pretty quiet, and by 1 pm we decided to call it a day and paddled / peddled back to the car. All in all a very nice kayakfishing trip, at a spot to remember. Looks perfect for a jack or jew hunt at the right time of the day / year. I'll be back!
