It's a kayak... wait, no... it's a surf board... wait...I'd never even heard of this emerging sport until I observed a bunch of guys doing this at Calloundra and I have to admit to finding the concept strangely provocative. The minimalistic simplicity of this is fairly inspiring to me and I think there's a good chance I'll take to it in the future, even if I do leave the fishing kit behind. My crystal ball suggests I wouldn't be alone there - give it a few years and it's certain to grow. If you've never seen or heard of it before take a look at this clip I shot while paddling through the breakers at the Noosa river mouth. I followed this guy out a fair way and I was pretty impressed at the speed he managed. I could have matched or exceeded his speed if I wanted to, but judging by the leisurely strokes he's taking there I'd say he's no where near top speed. This clip is a bit longer than the others and not only will it give you a glimpse of stand-up paddle surfing, it'll also show you how glorius it is to paddle out into Laguna Bay from the Noosa river mouth. Prepare to be jealous :-) Click here if video fails to play
23-08-2007 22:06 Hmmmm. interesting. When I was on Safari in Africa, thats how we travelled around the Okavanga Delta (massive wetlands). The local African guides taught me how to traverse that way. Its a lot of fun, and yeah you can pick up quite a pace.Only registered users can write comments. Powered by AkoComment Tweaked Special Edition v.1.4.6 |
