At last the cats and dogs have stopped falling here in southern Queensland and the wind has died down to. I even spotted a few patches of blue sky this morning, although I think I'll give it at least another day before heading back out.

It's been a while since I've seen rain like that in Australia. Knowing that I'm a mexican (read: Victorian) a few people sugested to me that I'd be use to this rain but the truth is Victoria doesn't get rain like that very often at all. The last time I saw rain like that was when I got caught in a typhoon in The Phillipines. And the time before that when I got caught in a typhoon in Taiwan. Aside from that I think the last time I saw this kind of rain was about 22 years ago... in Brisbane.

The rivers up here have transformed from the clear blue colour (that was making some of the fish a little timid) and is now a murky, muddy soup. Me thinx the best fishing opportunities over the next few days will come where blue meets brown, in or beyond the river mouths. Hopefully there'll be some thumper fish hanging about waiting for a smorgasboard of morsels to be flushed down by the rains. That's the theory anyway, so hopefully I'll put it to the test real-soon-now (tm).

Damned woodpeckers!!!

In times like this I find myself thinking about the story of Noah's Ark, marvelling at his achievements. Not only was the only person able to build a boat that would actually float (not a bad effort for a 600 year old drunk), he was able to build it big enough to hold 2 of every animal... of which there are approx 30 million. Wow!

So here's my questions... if there was 2 of each animal, making some 60 million animals, just how big was that boat? And what did Noah feed thm on? This would have been tricky I think, given that animals like to eat other animals. What a guy!
