Anger management required for these guys...

dont tay here
tewantin caravan park - never, ever stay there

Even I can't believe that I'm about to write what I am, especially given that it's the second negtive slanted rant on a particular accomodation establishment in the area in two consequetive posts. One could be forgiven for thinking I'm hard to please because of that, but wait till you get a load of this.

I arrived at Tewantin today, hoping to escape the madness that will undoubtedly ensure during the jazz festival that is about to commence here at Noosa. The very first caravan park I stopped in at was the Noosa Tewantin Caravan park. It looked alright from the outside and figured it might be worth staying in.

So in I went and as one does, I inquired about the price. The answer was $32.00. Not over the top, but certainly higher than every single caravan park I've stayed in thus far, which is quite a few. Much to their bemusement, I said so. And the reponse was this:

“Try staying at a caravan park in NSW and see how much it costs!”

I responded by saying that I've been doing just that for weeks now, and that the most I paid – even for powered sites – was $25.00. She looked at me in disbelief, to which I added, “I'm travelling the coast of Australia and am in fact writing about some of these parks on my website”.

Thats when things took a turn for the worst. She replied by saying: “Well then, we don't want you here!”

“OK,” I said, “I'm gone”.

So I walked back to the car and then I thought hang on a minute – this is exactly the kind of caravan park I could never recommend... in fact, given the narky attitude, I should do exactly he opposite. At that I grabbed my camera and snapped 2 shots. One of the ladies behind the counter walked out and told me to leave.

“My pleasure,” I said, as I turned around. Facing me was some angry looking sun-scorched guy who looked at me like I'd just finished cutting his lunch and said – no, screamed, “GET OUT” (with a few expletives following).

“I am mate, relax!”

“GET OUT NOW OR I”LL BASH YOUR BRAINS IN!”

As I packed up my camera at the side of my car he moved closer, started screaming louder and then threatened to kick my car in. By now he was right in my face, sleeves raised and ready to rumble. In days past I would have responded in kind, but in my current situation, either a stay in hospial or jail didn't appeal. So I told him that I have a fairly serious medical condition (which is true) and that if he did attack me, there's a fair chance he'd kill me. Guess what his response to that was.

“I don't care arsehole, I'll KILL you if you don't leave now”. Hrmm... I was clearly in the process of leaving and he knew it. He just wanted to take out his anger on someone, as maliciouly as he could.

I can't remember the last time I saw something so damned stupid. If they thought their price was justifiable, they would have said 'listen mate, it's worth the money – stay for a night and you'll see'.

But no – clearly they have something to hide, obviously being the poor value for money they offer as accomodation rates.

If you think my encounter was exclusive, think again. My next stop was a nearby caravan park  (that looked much nicer, and with infinitely friendlier staff mind you) that was booked out. We got talking about the other place and the staff at this new park were practially rolling on the floor laughing. Here's what was said to me:

“That moron does it all the time. He's never been a customer here, but he's our greatest business asset. People go there and often hastily leave soon after.”

He didn't want to get involved, however, and wouldn't provide me the police phone number, simply because he didn't want this guy coming for him on a warpath. I did find the police of course and by my calculation, they're drilling him now.

The whole experience has taught me a valuable lesson: whilst it's fine for me to recommend accomodation locations in my destination reports, from here on in I'll also add recommendations on where not to stay, and I'll back up any contention I make. From this day forward, I'll do my best to inform you of the businesses out there that do in fact despise you, and only want your money.

Moral of the story: Dont stay at the Noosa Tewantin Caravan park unless you really, really need to.

Caravan Park Operators
Psycho park owners are as common as seagulls. Something sends a lot of them round the twist. :p

Yeah I wrote that pretty damned quick as I was running short on battery power. The keys on the keyboard of this notebook like to be pressed hard and its way too easy to accidentally not type the letter you meant to.

Here's the really screwed up bit... the guy from the Noosa river caravan park has been ringing every caravan park in the area to tell them not to let me stay. :-/

Believe me Astro, I'm looking for camp sites but most of the camp sites around here are shut down due to the floods at the moment. I have picked up everything I need to be able to operate from camp sites though. I'm hanging around the general area until after the Brissy boat show because I want to pick up a few bits and pieces from Sunstate Hobie, as well as get out for at least one more fish in Laguna Bay with Billybob. But once I start moving again I'll be doing my best to stay away from caravan parks.

There's been a few instances (further south) where I could have stayed in camp grounds instead of caravan parks, but the access to water was simply much better the parks. Power was also an issue to, but thankfully I have that one covered now.
