Say hello to Innovator Nitro rods

If you think I've been slow on the uptake of attracting a few much needed sponsors, it's because I didn't want 'just anyone' having their logos on yakabout - I like to have full confidence in the products I endorse. Hence me approaching Hobie Victoria as well as DMH (camping gear specialists), of which I have years of experience dealing with. The latest addition to the yakabout supporters comes from Aussie based Innovator rods. After using a couple of their Shogun series for several years (for trout and surf fishing), I developed a great deal of confidence in their products. Recently Hobie Vic dealer Scott Lovig called me to gloat about how sharp their Nitro series of rods are, having picked up the beefy Godzilla rod (which I imagine he plans to put to use to catch himself a Thresher shark, among other things). Upon hearing this I went out of my way to have a look at them in tackle shops and when I found them, looked at them and felt them, I knew he wasn't kidding. I was always fond of the Shogun rods but these Nitro flavoured sticks are the cream of their crop.

So I introduced myself to the owner of Innovator rods and explained what I was doing with yakabout and where the website was heading. Fortunately for me, he had foresight enough to see where I was coming from and was more than happy to help out by supplying me with a few rods that will perfectly fit the various fishing scenarios I continually find myself in.

I have to admit that before I set out on this trip I had a backward mentality to rod quality for kayak fishing. My thinking had always been to go for less expensive (and thus lesser quality rods) just in case they were inadvertently sent down to Davey Jones locker. That attitude has cost me dearly a few times now, having lost some great fighting fish as a result, including a monster Longtail Tuna. I'm much more vigilant about securing rods to the kayak these days, however, so thats just not about to happen.

The locals had it in the kitchen before it even finished kicking.

I'm back in Suva for the next couple weeks. There may be the chance to try for a GT again.
