Nice place, Bowen... I might stay for a while

mackeral
65cm Mackerel

 Launch:- 11:15 AM
 Landed:- 12.30 PM
 Tide:- 1:30 PM,High
 Weather:- Hot, 29 °C, 5-10 knots
 Caught:
- Mackeral
Method:- Trolling hard body and soft plastic lures

After having a bit of a sleep in this morning and then taking a couple of hours to get out of first gear, I only left myself a couple of hours to get in some fishing at Bowen today. Fortunately, that's all the time I needed to catch a fish because this Mackerel was hooked up within 5 minutes of launching. Falling for the el-cheapo 11cm red-headed hardbody lure (which just seems to account for most of the best fish I've caught recently), any thoughts I may have had about returning the fish were dashed when I saw the damage done by both treble hooks. At around 65cm, I figured the fish was legal (calling it for a spotty mackerel) but upon second glance it may actually be a small spaniard, which would make it undersize. In any case, I don't feel bad about it because the fish wouldn't have survived anyway. I suppose I better go and eat the evidence now, just in case.

Horseshoe Bay is a fantastic little kayak fishing destination, perfectly ripe for some snorkelling to. I'll be here for a few days at the least, and will be on the water nice and early tomorrow.
