In my last trip report I covered my first outing here at Bowen and commented that I was planning to stay for a while. That was my plan until I woke up at 5AM this morning to strong winds that will obviously increase throughout the day. In days gone past I'd hang around and sit out the weather but have since learned that a better strategy is to keep on moving and plan to return at another time. It's a real shame in this case, because I really like the look of this area. I'll be returning here for sure and will make some decisions on when that is likely to be when I get settled in Townsville for a few weeks, which is where I'm heading today.

I've got a lot of catching up to do in Townsville, including publishing a bunch of content I've been planning for this site, as well as rethinking my route from there. The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that I'll get more days on the water (and ultimately more out of this trip) if I turn back and head back down the east coast again after reaching as far north as I'm prepared to go in QLD. That way, not only will I probably avoid some horrid top-end summer weather, I should also be upon NSW during it's prime time and may even catch the tail-end of Victoria's warmer months as well. This new plan requires a bit more thinking before deciding to act on it and I should be well positioned in Townsville to do just that.
