Trolling the breakwalls![]() Townsville Trevally
Before making the journey out to Maggie island (which I intend to do tomorrow) I thought I'd spend today trolling lures around the breakwalls around the southern end of Townsville. I was hoping to get lucky with a salty Barramundi but my bad barra luck continued as per usual. Another species I'm equally keen to get onto is the oh-so tasty Threadfin salmon and I did think I was in with a chance on that front because I spotted a school of them playing around the surface close to northernmost breakwall soon after launching. Unfortunately for me, however, they simply weren't interested in the little soft plastic shads I was casting at them. ![]() I was sure I'd hook up here, but I was wrong I pushed on to the Ross river mouth, hugging structure wherever I could find it, but like the other anglers in the area, was unable to hook on to any more fish. By this time it was starting to get pretty warm and I figured the fish must have been in siesta mode. For a short while I considered paddling out to one of the reefs at the south west side of Maggie island but soon thought I'd save my strength in order to do that tomorrow instead. There's coral trout in them-there reefs and by hook or by crook (hopefully hook) I'll be reeling one of them in before leaving Townsville. ![]() 16km round trip
