Looks like trolling is out this weekend

Image
For several years I've been cursed with a rotator cuff shoulder injury (quite common amongst paddlers - and a topic being discussed at the AKFF at the moment), which was infact caused by paddling in ridiculous conditions and it's never properly healed. It seems to come and go intermittently. Lately it's been giving me a bit of curry as well, so despite the fact that I do like to paddle a kayak I haven't been doing a whole lot lately. Thanks heavens for the pedal-powered Hobie Mirage drive, which has pretty much negated the need for me to use the shoulder to go kayaking anyway. Unfortunately I injured my leg today and although it's nothing serious (just a really, really good corking), bending my leg is actually pretty painful. Pedalling could be a bit tricky because I suspect its going to be this way for the next couple of days. I can fully appreciate why a solid cork injury can keep footy players off the field. For sure, this has potential to keep me off the water for the weekend and thats a crying shame because according to BOM, the weather is looking pretty good for some yak fishing sessions. I've been working through most weekends in the past month, so as you could imagine, I'm itching to go forth and catch some fish.

It takes a fair bit to keep me off the water, however, and I'm determined to give it a try regardless. So I'm thinking about switching to a new strategy for a change, which is to leave most of my lures at home, gently paddle out to somewhere fishy and throwing out a bait or two. I've got a couple of chicken fillets in the freezer that I'm planning to marinate in tuna oil overnight and use that to try and tempt a bite. This has worked for me on snapper before, so I might just make snapper my target this Saturday. Word has it that Plantation Point (Vincentia, Jervis Bay) holds the odd snapper from time to time so I think this is where I'll try. I'll probably use one of the fillets as berley (cut up into little morsels) and the other to chunk up into wholesome hook-sized pieces. Wish me luck :-)
