Too windy for kayak fishing at Jervis Bay right now PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Looks good at Mackay though!

By my own standards, I totally wussed out this weekend. I had planned to head out Saturday and came very close to, but just as I started peeling on the sharkskins I quickly checked AskHuey and noted that winds had indeed picked up steam. Just as predicted, for a change. Winds were blowing from the NNE at around 16 - 17 knots and gradually increasing. I could have found some cover behind Bowen island, but it would have been barely fishable at best in a few hours time. At the last minute I backed out and decided to get some work done at home instead.

Weather here in Jervis Bay is showing signs of improvement and before too long it'll be far more accomodating for kayak fishing. I arrived in this area December last year and came into last summer a litte clueless, geographically speaking. Knowing the area the way I do now - better than before at the very least - I'm expecting big things this summer. Big fish... bigger than life photos.

Cape Hillsborough, Mackay QLD (Great kayak fishing spot)

Speaking of bigger than life photos - and warmth - Carl 'Astro' Holland (of Mackay) sent me this photo of a sunrise over Cape Hillsborough. This is a beautiful place, that is also an ideal kayak fishing destination, which is why Carl was there at this hour of the morning. Click the read more link to see another.
