Yakabout - Australian East Coast Kayak Fishing

Important update: On the 5th of Dec 2009, Josh shut down the yakabout forums and various other modules and set up Yakabout as a static website, serving partly as a content archive (of the early trip reports, videos and photos in particular). On the very same day Josh launched his new site, the spiritual successor to Yakabout, Yakass.net

Yakass.net is updated frequently and is basically taking over from where Yakabout left off. Although similar in format, Yakass.net is a superior site in every way, and some of the best content from yakabout has been ported in to the archives of yakass.net. So be sure to bookmark yakass.net and check back frequently to stay up to date in the world of coastal kayak fishing

About Yakabout...
Yakabout was founded in by Josh Holmes (AKA Yakass) in mid 2007. What began as an online journal for a solo Australian kayak fishing expedition has since steadily evolved into a digital shrine to the sport. With an Australian focus on all things related to the 'yak fishing scene, Yakabout is regularly updated with news, gear reviews & articles, trip reports, google maps as well as photos, video clips and more. The aim of this website is to share and archive any kayak fishing related information & resources in an interesting and informative way, helping to educate those that are new to the sport (and perhaps inspiring those that aren't). Contact Josh if you have any questions about this site, or kayak fishing related news to report (product releases & updates, announcements for events, catches of note, etc), photos you'd like to share, know of any links that you'd like to see in the links directory, or would like to contribute to Yakabout.

Yakabout Disclaimer:
Coastal kayak fishing out wide off-shore can be potentially dangerous and even life-threatening. Only those who are reasonably fit and have ample experience with kayaking, as well as kayak fishing combined with a good understanding of the sea and all required safety gear should attempt it. Seeking an accredited sea-kayaking training course is highly recomemnded... even if you use a pedal and or sail-powered style yak.

About Yakass...
Acquiring the bug from an early age, Josh has been fishing for nearly 30 years and has been doing so from a kayak for almost a decade of that time. He is now a fully-fledged kayak fishing addict and completely beyond the point of rehabilitaion. Since being introduced to Hobie kayaks, Josh has traversed over 10000km on the water (no, not all in one go), in a myriad of ideal yak fishing destinations, from Apollo Bay Victoria to Townsville QLD, and landing some beautiful fish along the way. Josh ended his east coast yak fishing expedition 8 months after it began to work for a year with HobieCat Australasia in Jervis Bay. He now works with Maclean Outdoors, Nth NSW, demonstrating, selling and servicing Hobie kayaks. When not working at the shop, Josh can usually be found kayak fishing the rivers, estuaries or offshore waters around the Clarence coast region, or otherwise tinkering away with this site. Josh is a member of the Hobie factory fishing team, and is also sponsored by Innovator Nitro rods.
