So on Monday (the 'rest day' for the kayak fishing tourney) I set up the Hobie Island into single outrigger mode and peddled out the mouth into the ocean to try and hook something a little bigger than bream. I was hoping for snapper, or jewfish, or cobia, or tuna, whatever, really. What I got was humble old shovelnose sharks, four of them caught in quick succession. These are my first shovelnose sharks and they were fun to catch from a kayak, but I did actually try to get away from these guys, quickly switching from a baiting strategy to lure-trolling tactics instead.
