AKFF kayak ownership pollThere's an interesting poll running at the Australian Kayak Fishing Forums at the moment, asking members to spill the beans on what kayak they own. At the time of writing, the poll has been running for a week and so far 131 votes have been cast. In a way I'm really rather surprised by the results and in another way I'm not. Of those 131 votes, 14% of them are using Hobie Outbacks. That's the largest % of all kayaks listed (of which there are almost 70 different models). Coming in at 10%, the Perception Swing is next in line, followed by the Hobie Revolution, Ocean Kayak Prowler Elite 4.5, Ocean Kayak P13 and Viking Tempo, all currently at 6%. If you've read my review of the 2007 Hobie Outback, you'll know why I'm not so surprised by these results. What surprises me about this is that of the kayaks mentioned, I'm pretty sure the Outback is among the most expensive (like the other Hobie models). This is an interesting thing to consider. If you were to compare this scenario to motor vehicles, that would mean everyone would be driving around in Ferrari and Porche sports cars. In said post, Floydfatman makes the point that 'What you own and what you would own are often differant stories'. That's true. In most cases, people driving Holdens and Fords would prefer to be driving something else. But because the Outback's are the most expensive of all these kayaks - and they are still topping the list suggests to me that as far as fishing kayaks go, many people really are just buying their ideal platform. I do think FF's logic is sound though, which makes me wonder how many people would really own a Hobie if they could afford to spend a little more. If you're in the market for a fishing yak, it might just pay to have a quick look at this list. There's a reason some of those yaks are scoring higher than the others.
22-06-2007 23:42 Hrmm... I was wrong there, looking at numbers owned, and not percentages. It's all relvant though. It's been interesting watching the poll develop, with the Perception Swing making a good showing, not at 10%. The Hobie Outback still seems to have proliferated more, now at 13%. The Ocean Kayak P13 and Hobie Revolution are currently equal on 7%. 02-07-2007 17:29 I know this is trumpet blowing but imagine if the survey was counted by manufacturer. Remember the Hobie guys are spread across 6 or 7 models. Cheers Scott Only registered users can write comments. Powered by AkoComment Tweaked Special Edition v.1.4.6 |
